DATA RECOVERY HELP

Lost Files or Missing Data? Start With What Happened.

Files deleted? External drive not showing up? Computer won’t start and you need the files on it?

You don’t need to know what kind of data recovery you need. Tell us what happened, and we’ll start there.

If the data matters, avoid unnecessary changes to the device until the problem is understood.

Data Loss Can Have Different Causes.

Missing data can be caused by accidental deletion, a storage device that is no longer detected, a computer that won’t start, file-system problems or other storage issues.

The right next step depends on what happened and how the device is behaving. OnSiteTech starts with the symptoms and available information rather than asking you to choose a technical recovery category.

If a Drive Is Making Unusual Noises, Stop and Tell Us First.

If a hard drive is clicking, grinding or making a new unusual sound, avoid repeatedly powering it on or running recovery tools before the situation is assessed.

Describe what you’re hearing and what happened before the problem started. If the case appears to require specialized physical recovery, we’ll explain that rather than representing it as a routine software recovery.

Where Is the Missing Data?

The problem may involve a computer’s internal storage, an external hard drive, SSD, USB storage device or another storage location.

The device type helps us understand the situation, but it does not by itself determine whether the data can be recovered.

You Don’t Need to Choose a Recovery Method.

  1. Tell us what happened

deleted files, missing drive, computer not starting, or something else.

  2. We review the symptoms and the device involved.

  3. We explain the appropriate next step and any chargeable work before proceeding.

  4. If the situation is outside the confirmed scope of OnSiteTech’s recovery work, we do not present it as an in-house capability.

For Calgary-specific visit and routing information, use the Calgary City Hub until a Data Recovery Calgary landing is approved.

How Is Data Recovery Priced?

Data recovery can vary depending on what happened, the storage device involved and the work required. We don’t publish a made-up flat recovery price for every case.

For standard on-site technical labour, OnSiteTech’s published rate is $99/hour. Parts, equipment or software are separate when required and approved.

If a case requires a different process or falls outside standard on-site work, that should be explained before chargeable work proceeds.

Understand the Next Step Before You Approve the Work.

We start with what happened, explain what we find, and get your approval before chargeable work proceeds. We do not guarantee that lost data can be recovered.

Data Recovery FAQ

Can deleted files be recovered?

Sometimes deleted files may be recoverable, but it depends on what happened after deletion, the storage device and whether the data has been overwritten or otherwise affected. We don’t guarantee recovery before the situation is assessed.

Can you help if my hard drive is not showing up?

You can start here. A drive that is not showing up can have different causes, so we begin with what the device is doing rather than assuming a specific failure or recovery method.

What if my computer won’t start but I need the files?

Tell us that the data is the priority. A no-start computer does not automatically mean the data is lost, and the next step depends on what failed and how the storage device is behaving.

Should I run data recovery software myself?

If the data is important and you are not sure why it disappeared, avoid making unnecessary changes to the affected device. In particular, if a hard drive is making unusual noises, do not repeatedly power it on or keep trying recovery tools before the situation is assessed.

Do you guarantee data recovery?

No. Data recovery depends on the condition of the device and what happened to the data. We explain the appropriate next step without promising a successful recovery in advance.

Do you provide clean-room or mechanical hard drive recovery?

This page does not claim clean-room or specialized mechanical hard drive recovery. If a case appears to require specialized physical recovery, the appropriate next step should be explained rather than presented as a routine OnSiteTech recovery.
